Due to the timing of the holidays this year there will be minimal interruption to our regulars hours. We will be closed on Monday, December 26th and Tuesday, December 27th and Monday, January 2nd. BUILDING EXPANSION ANNOUNCED
The Flin Flon Credit Union took the opportunity on International Credit Union Day to announce plans to complete a major renovation and expansion of their existing building with the purchase of the NU Hair Care Building at 34 Main Street. Early this year the Credit Union conducted a review of it's building needs and surveyed our membership regarding services and location. The random survey provided feedback that a majority of members preferred the Credit Union to stay on Main Street. After looking at the various options available it was decided that expanding and renovating our existing building provided the best opportunity for long term value for members. Some of the additional services being reviewed are an additional ATM, commercial night deposit and a sit down teller wicket.
President Rod Gourlay is optimistic that the next twelve months should yield many positive changes and commented,"We are confident we can continue to provide great rates and low cost services to our membership, and we believe this way forward allows for that."
"Over the next few months, we'll focus on finalizing drawings and the detailed plans associated with this project. We'll have more information to share with members during our next Annual General Meeting, to be held in April, 2012," General Manager Kory Eastman stated.
SUPPORT GOOD CAUSES HERE AND ABROAD
Your kindness has allowed the Flin Flon Credit Union to help sponsor and raise money for the following events/causes in the last six months; Red Cross Campaigns including $700 for African Famine and $1000 for Japan Disaster Relief Effort, $2,000 to help sponsor the Flin Flon Trout Festival Main Street Day (in support from our generous partners in the Parkland Credit Union Group), we provided a $1,000 sponsorship to the 2011 Flin Flon Supercities MS Walk which raised an additional $6,700 for the fight against MS, $2,500 donated to the Main Street Pioneer Park Project and we were proud sponsors of the Tri-Service Million Dollar Hole in One Event which raised $5,000 for the local SkatePark Project. On top of this we have also provided cash and merchandise donations for various bonspiels, benefit socials and meat draws.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO MEMBERS
Anyone with e-mail access may be aware that there has been a recent flood of e-mails aimed at deceiving members of financial institutions into accessing legitimate looking Web sites in order to update confidential and financial information.
The act of sending an e-mail to a user falsely claiming to be an established financial institution in an attempt to defraud the user into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft is known as “Phishing”. The e-mail directs the user to visit a Web site where they are asked to update personal information, such as passwords, credit card numbers, social insurance numbers, and bank account numbers, that their financial institution already has. The Web site, however, is bogus and set up only to steal the user’s information. Because it is relatively simple to make a Web site look like a legitimate financial institution site, the scam counts on people being tricked into thinking they are actually being contacted by their financial institution to update their account information. By spamming large groups of people, the “phisher” counts on the e-mail being read by a percentage of people who actually have dealings with the financial institution in question.
Phishing is a variation on “fishing,” the idea being that bait is thrown out with the hopes that while most will ignore the bait, some will be tempted into biting.
