MEMBER EQUITY PLAN

Discover the Difference of Membership

Membership is ownership. As a financial co-operative we are owned and directed by our membership for the benefit of our members and the community in which they live. We generate profits to ensure a healthy and stable organization, to develop new services and products and to reward our membership through the payment of patronage. Along with the International Co-operative Principles our Board of Directors have approved five specific guiding principles for the Flin Flon Credit Union. They are as follows:

  1. To be Member-Focused & Directed.
  2. To be Fair, Trustworthy & Accountable.
  3. To invest in People & Community.
  4. To uphold Profit-Sharing & Shared Contribution.
  5. To be Innovative & Adaptive.

These guiding principles are used to provide management and staff direction in our day-to-day operation and a clear distinction between our organization and our competitor's.

History

The Flin Flon Credit Union (originally named the Alpha Credit Union Society Limited) was incorporated on January 10th, 1940 with office's operating out of a private home in Flin Flon. The Alpha Credit Union Society Limited moved its offices to the North of 53 Co-Op building in 1949. On February 26th, 1959 the name was changed to the Flin Flon Credit Union Society Limited. Construction of the Credit Union Building (our current home) began in 1960 with the Credit Union beginning operation at the new building in January of 1961. In July of 1970, "Society" was removed from the organization's name, as with all Credit Unions in Manitoba. As of March 31st of 2007 the Flin Flon Credit Union held assets of $21,470,395 and paid it's first ever patronage rebate of $105,713 to its membership.

Board of Directors

The Credit Union and Caisses Populaires Act of Manitoba as well as numerous Federal and Provincial laws and statutes along with the organization's By-Laws govern your Flin Flon Credit Union. The Board of Directors consists of seven Directors, elected from the membership, who provide the vision and direction for the Flin Flon Credit Union. An Annual Meeting is held each year for members to receive reports, elect directors, vote on resolutions and provide input into the credit union's operations. We encourage all members to participate in this democratic process.
